WIN 16 Honorees

About Joan Rivers

WIN posthumously pays tribute to Joan Rivers, (who is also a WIN Awards 2014 nominee in the Actress in a Reality Series Category for Fashion Police). While many remember Joan Rivers for her recent work on Fashion Police, the late comic's Hollywood career spans decades. Rivers became a trailblazer for all women in both comedy and entertainment.

Rivers was the first female comedian to perform at Carnegie Hall. In 1965, Joan became a household name after landing in the spotlight during a guest appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Rivers continued to make appearances on The Tonight Show as well as The Ed Sullivan Show before landing her own syndicated daytime talk show, That Show with Joan Rivers, in 1966 (Johnny Carson was her first guest). In 1989 Rivers launched her daytime talk show The Joan Rivers Show which ran for five winning her a Daytime Emmy award in 1990 for Outstanding Talk Show Host.

Rivers and her daughter premiered their new show Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? on WE tv in 2011, which chronicled the unstoppable mother-daughter duo as they worked on their careers and family. Rivers made her triumphant return to E! Entertainment, hosting its hit reality series, Fashion Police, from 2010 until her passing September 4, 2014.

About Baroness Kimberly Moore

Moore is a philanthropist, Goodwill Ambassador to U.S. for Guinea Bissau Africa, founder of Echelon, a charity to bring meaning back into fundraising.

Through her Kimberly Moore Foundation, Moore created the Keeping Harmony Alive to put music education back into underserved schools and an Adopt-A-Letter campaign which collects and answers letters written to Santa.

This educational program also gives children mentoring and sponsorship programs for donors who would wish to take the gift of holiday giving one step further. To date, while "working for Santa", Moore has granted 30,000 wishes to low-income Los Angeles children.

About Lauren Paul & Molly Thompson

Lauren Paul and Molly Thompson

WIN also celebrates its guest presenters, filmmakers Lauren Paul and Molly Thompson, with its first Community Service tribute for having created Finding Kind, a documentary film about middle school female bullying. Their film launched a movement and school program based upon the powerful belief in KINDness, that brings awareness and healing to the negative and lasting effects of girl-against-girl crime.

Kind Campaign Co-Founder, Lauren Paul said, “Over the years, the vicious ways in which females treat each other have become societal norms, with various media outlets that mock and even glamorize this issue. What we often choose to ignore is the fact that these experiences very often lead to depression, anxiety, loss of self worth, eating disorders, drug abuse, alcoholism, attempted suicide and actual suicide in millions of girl’s lives. We are suggesting something very simple: to "STOP the competition, STOP the cattiness, STOP the hate, and to BE KIND".

From 2009-2012, Lauren Paul and Molly Thompson spoke in over 450 schools across North America and completed four international anti-bullying school tours. Their documentary, Finding Kind, was released in theaters in New York and Los Angeles, was accepted and awarded in over 20 film festivals, and has screened in thousands of schools and venues across America and Canada. Although the last three and a half years of touring the country have been an amazing, life-changing experience for Lauren and Molly, living life on the road can be challenging.

In 2014, they released a KIND KIT, an anti-bullying curriculum made available to every school and community who desires to implement KIND. The KIND KIT will include the Finding Kind documentary, a Kind Campaign assembly DVD, a copy of the Kind Club curriculum, and all the necessary materials to keep KIND in mind. By packaging the KIND KIT, schools will have the opportunity to keep Kind Campaign programs and the film, Finding Kind indefinitely. Most importantly, this life-saving program will now have the opportunity to spread into thousands of schools.
